Трикату consists of three components: black pepper, Indian long pepper, and ginger. All components are taken in equal proportions and mixed together.
The remedy is used for increased Ama. Ama in Ayurveda is called toxins, waste products.
Signs of accumulation of Ama include coating on the tongue, unpleasant odor from the mouth and body, poor digestion, feeling of general weakness and fatigue, low immunity, abundant accumulation of mucus.
No matter what type of Ayurvedic constitution you belong to, the methods for eliminating Ama (detoxifying the body) are the same. But first, let's determine what increases Ama and what decreases it. So, sweet, salty, and sour tastes increase Ama (toxins). Accordingly, if the goal is to cleanse the body, these tastes should either be completely eliminated from the diet or significantly reduced. Bitter and pungent tastes decrease Ama. Moreover, the bitter taste decreases Ama, while the pungent taste destroys (burns) it. The astringent taste is neutral in this sense - on one hand, it can dry out Ama, which is beneficial, but on the other hand, the astringent taste can also retain Ama in the body, making it difficult to remove.
As we can see, the pungent taste is the only one that effectively eliminates toxins from the body. This idea is implemented in the composition of Trikatu: all three components are spices with a strong pungent taste. By its nature, Ama is opposite to the digestive fire - Agni. Therefore, anything that increases Agni will decrease Ama.
Application:
For weak or impaired digestion - 2 tablets, with three drops of lemon, three times a day, 10 minutes before meals. For loss of appetite - 1 tablet, 3 times a day before or during meals.
This mixture will have the best cleansing effect if taken on an empty stomach. People with a Kapha constitution can easily do this. For Vata constitution individuals, this method is also acceptable, but if it causes unpleasant sensations, Trikatu can be taken during or after meals. Pitta-type individuals generally have difficulty tolerating all pungent spices, so for them, Trikatu should be taken after meals and in minimal amounts. Pitta individuals are also recommended to take Trikatu together with bitter herbs. In cases of aggravated Pitta, it is better to refrain from taking Trikatu and other pungent herbs and resort to other methods of cleansing, such as a three-day diet or simply taking a course of Triphala.
Trikatu effectively cleanses the body, so during this cleansing process, toxins begin to shift from their deposits and temporarily enter the bloodstream, which may cause various unpleasant symptoms such as headaches, etc. In this case, the dosage of the preparation should be reduced or a break in its intake should be taken.
Contraindications: Increased Pitta - gastritis with high acidity, fever, severe skin diseases.
Composition: in equal proportions ginger, black pepper, and long pepper (pippali).
Indications: Unlike most rasayanas, Trikatu reduces Kapha dosha and increases Pitta, normalizes water metabolism in the body. It dries mucus, relieves swelling, colds, and stagnation of food in the stomach. It is used for depression, stress, obesity, and many other ailments.
