Active ingredients: Amalaki (amla) is considered one of the strongest rejuvenating plants in Ayurvedic medicine. Amalaki is the richest natural source of vitamin C (up to 3000 mg in one fruit). Amalaki has an immunomodulatory effect and also stimulates hemoglobin synthesis. It cleanses the liver, blood, and intestines, regulates sugar and cholesterol levels, promotes hair and nail growth, strengthens bones and teeth. Together with catechins, antioxidants prevent the development of atherosclerosis and various immune disorders in the body.
The fruits of the plant contain substances that stimulate the production of erythropoietin, which is why the plant has long been used in the treatment of anemia. The glycosides and saponins of the plant normalize the function of the intestines, eliminating constipation, bloating, and intestinal colic. Amalaki contains natural antiseptics that suppress the activity of pathogenic microflora in the intestines and genital tract.
Amalaki. This is the name of the plant in Sanskrit, in Latin - Emblica Officinalis Gaertn, Phyllanthus Emblica, or Terminalia Emblica. In English, it is called Indian gooseberry, and in Hindi - amla, but regardless of the name, amalaki has a number of remarkable properties.
First of all, in Ayurvedic pharmacology, it is known as a plant of divine origin. Amalaki is also a rasayana, i.e. it has properties to prolong life and fight diseases. Usually rasayanas - the best of Ayurvedic herbal compositions - are made from more than one ingredient. It is amazing that this fruit itself is revered as one of the most powerful rasayanas. The "Charaka Samhita" states that "amalaki is the best among plants that have a rejuvenating effect."
The fruit of amalaki has a sweet, sour, bitter, astringent, and pungent taste. The only missing taste is salty. Since amalaki contains five out of six tastes, it balances all three doshas.
Amalaki initially has a sour taste, but when mixed with saliva, it acquires a sweet aftertaste (vipaka). Both sweet and salty tastes pacify Vata dosha. The virya, or potency, of Amalaki is cooling, so along with the sweet aftertaste, this coolness pacifies the hot Pitta. The bitter, astringent, and pungent tastes of amalaki balance Kapha. Thus, this one fruit pacifies all three doshas.
